GLS : a Location Service for an Ad Hoc Network

چکیده

The Grid Location Service (GLS) is a location service which provides location information for a node in a mobile ad hoc network. GLS provides a mechanism for a node to track the location of other nodes in the network topology. A mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is an autonomous system of mobile routers (and associated hosts) connected by wireless links–the union of which form an arbitrary graph. The routers are free to move randomly and organize themselves arbitrarily; thus, the network’s wireless topology may change rapidly and unpredictably. Preliminary results indicate that GLS combined with geographic-based routing protocols looks like a promising scalable solution for very large MANETs. Since the results of GLS look promising, further study of GLS is warranted. Specifically, GLS needs to be compared with other location services and incorporated into a geographic-based routing protocol. In addition to providing an overview of the GLS protocol, this paper reports on our first step toward meeting these goals.

REIHE INFORMATIK 14/2002 A Reactive Location Service for Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

We present and analyze a reactive location service (RLS) for mobile ad hoc networks. RLS provides a mobile node in a wireless ad-hoc network with the means to inquire the current geographical position of another node on-demand and can be used as a building block for location-based routing. We provide a comparison of RLS to an ideal omniscient location service as well as to the complex Grid Loca...

Secure position-based routing protocol for mobile ad hoc networks

In large and dense mobile ad hoc networks, position-based routing protocols can offer significant performance improvement over topology-based routing protocols by using location information to make forwarding decisions. However, there are several potential security issues for the development of position-based routing protocols. In this paper, we propose a secure geographic forwarding (SGF) mech...

Hash-Based Virtual Hierarchies for Scalable Location Service in Mobile Ad-hoc Networks

A location service is an essential prerequisite for geographic routing protocols for MANETs. We present VHLS, a new distributed location service protocol, that features a dynamic location server selection mechanism and adapts to network traffic workload, minimizing the overall location service overhead. We demonstrate that the ratio of location queries to updates is an important performance par...

A Simulation Study of a Location Service for Position-Based Routing in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

Position-based routing in a mobile ad hoc network requires geographic addresses. Thus, a node that wants to send a packet to some target node has to know the target’s (approximate) current position. In order to provide each node’s position to the other network nodes, a distributed location service has to be used. J. Li et al. recently put forward a promising approach called the ‘Grid Location S...
